The Gaoligong by UTMB® is an event, the essence of which is to offer several races deep in the Tengchong town and countryside. The 2018 edition of Gaoligong by UTMB® will be held in March 2018 in Tengchong and Mt.Gaoligong, China, including three distances – MGU160km, RCE125km and THT55km.

The MGU: around 160 km with about 8400 meters of elevation gain, starts from Tengchong WenZhiGuangChang Square, in semi-autonomy and in 42 hours maximum.

The RCE: around 125 km with about 6600 meters elevation gain, starts from Tengchong WenZhiGuangChang Square, in semi-autonomy and in 31 hours maximum.

The THT: around 55 km with about 2300 meters elevation gain, starts from Tengchong WenZhiGuangChang Square, in semi-autonomy and in 11 hours maximum.



1) These races are open to anyone, man or women, born in 1998 or before 1998 .To be totally aware of the length and the specificity of the event and to be perfectly prepared for it.

2) To have acquired, prior to the race, a real capacity for self-sufficiency in the mountains which permits the management of problems induced by this type of course, and notably:

*To know how to face, without outside help, climatic conditions which can become very difficult due to the altitude (night, wind, cold, fog, rain or snow)

*To know how to manage, even if one finds oneself isolated, physical or psychological problems arising from high fatigue, digestive problems, muscular or joint pain, minor ailments.

*To be fully aware, that it is not the role of the organization to help a runner to overcome these problems and that for such an activity in the mountains security depends upon the capacity of the runner to adapt to the problems encountered, or envisaged.

3) Each runner declares their knowledge of and accepts the present regulations and agrees to accept them without reserve and to promote the event's ethical charter available at www.mtgaoligong.com



As a principle, runners must race individually in semi autonomy.

Semi autonomy is defined as having the capacity to be autonomous between two refreshment posts, not only on the food but also that of clothing and security, being able to adapt oneself in particular to problems encountered or envisaged (bad weather, physical problems, injuries…)

This principle is implicated in the following rules:

1) All runners must have all their obligatory equipment with them at all times during the race (see paragraph EQUIPMENT). The equipment should be carried in a pack tagged at the race-bib distribution and must not be changed during the race. At any time during the race, the marshals can verify the bag, its weight under its contents. The runner is obliged to accept these controls in a friendly manner, otherwise it may result in disqualification.

2) The refreshment posts supply food and drink to be consumed on site. The organization supply still water or energizing drink for filling water bottles or reservoirs. The runner has to ensure, when leaving each refreshment post, that they have a sufficient amount of water and food to keep them going to the next refreshment post.

3)For MGURCETHT, personal assistance is only tolerated at certain refreshment points ,in the zone specifically reserved for this usage and with agreement of the head of post. This assistance can only be assured by one single person, without specific equipment other than one bag of a volume of 30 liters maximum. Assistance given by a professional team, or any medical or paramedical professional is strictly forbidden.

4) The rest of the of the refreshment post is strictly reserved for the runners.



1) In order to register, it is necessary to have gained the required number of ITRA points by finishing, between 01/01/2016 and 31/12/2017 exclusively:

- For the MGU (160 km): 5 ITRA points collected at most in 1 race

- For the RCE (125 km): 3 ITRA points collected at most in 1 race

 There is an exception for THT

- For the THT (55 km): 2 ITRA points collected at most in 1 race OR finisher certificate of CAA registered full marathon between 01/01/2016 and 31/12/2017.

2) In the case of the declaration of races without exact references, non-conformity to the regulations or deceit, the organization reserves the right to cancel a registration without the re-funding the admission fee.

3) Please note: in the case of a change to the length of a qualifying race, premature ending of the race or if the race is cancelled, the qualifying points will be recalculated in relation to the actual characteristics.

4) Each runner must submit a specific medical certificate during race-bibs distribution(template provided by the organizer and signed by the doctor) otherwise no bib will be issued.



Participation in the Gaoligong by UTMB® assumes the acceptance of the present regulations and ethics of the race which are available at www.mtgaoligong.com

 Entry fees include all the services described in the present regulations.

The registration for any of these races is firm and final and it is not possible to change races.



1) Any cancellation of registration must be made by email or post. No cancellations are accepted by telephone or fax.

2) If a competitor registered want to cancel their registration, reimbursement of a percentage of the registration fee will be made by crediting the bank account associated to the credit cardWechat, Alipay used upon registration in accordance to the following conditions:

8. EQUIPMENT (We will update before the race)

In order to participate in these events, a set of obligatory equipment is required. However it is important to note it is the minimum necessary and that each trail-runner must adapt it according to their needs. It is important, in particular, not to choose clothing that is the lightest possible weight in order to gain a few grams, but to choose items which will give real protection against the cold, windy or snowy mountain weather, therefore giving a good level of security and performance.

1) Obligatory equipment




Mobile phone with option enabling its use in China (put in one’s repertoire the security numbers of the organization, keep it switched on, do not hide one’s number and do not forget to set off with recharged batteries)


Personal cup 15cl. minimum (water-bottles or flasks with lids are not acceptable)


Water reservoir minimum 1 liter


Head lamps in good working condition with replacement batteries

Adhesive elastic band enable making a bandage or a strapping

Jacket, with a hood, capable of withstanding the bad mountain weather

2) Recommended equipment

*Very strongly recommended:

Knife or scissors with which to cut the self-adhesive elasticized bandage

Walking poles for security on slippery ground in case of rain or snow

A change of warm clothes indispensable in the case of cold weather, rain or injury,

Warm hat

Warm and waterproof gloves

Waterproof over-trousers

CNY cash (in order to cover the unexpected expenses)


*Advised (list not definitive):

Change of clothing, compass, string, sun cream, Vaseline or anti-chaffing cream, needle and thread.

If you decide to use poles, you must keep them throughout the whole of the race. It is forbidden to start without poles and collect them up along the way.

No poles will be allowed in the spare’s bags.

The use of poles will be forbidden in certain areas along the route, which will have the relevant signs, for safety or environmental reasons.



1).Every bib is individually handed to each runner on production of:

-a photographic identity,

-medical certificate

-race pack and all obligatory equipment

2).The race bib must be worn on the chest or the stomach and must be permanently and fully visible throughout the entire race. It must, therefore, always be positioned over any clothing and cannot for any reason be fixed onto the back or a leg. The name and logo of the sponsors must neither be modified, nor hidden.

3).The race number is the pass necessary to get to the shuttles, buses, refreshment posts, nurses, rest areas, showers, areas for depositing or recuperating spares bags…Except in the case of refusal to comply with a decision taken by a race official, the race bib will never be withdrawn, but in the case of rpuling out of the race, it is deactivated.



When each runner receives with his/her race bib, he/she will get drop bags, to be deposited at the Start with personal item and can be access as follow:

MGU category will receive 4 drop bags and runners can access those in CP6&12&15&Finish.

RCE category will receive 3 drop bags and runners can access those in CP6&11&Finish.

THT category will receive 1 drop bags, to be collected only at the Finish.

For all racers who want to access personal items at pre-selected locations along the route, please follow these guidelines:

1) Racer must use bag(s) provided by the organizer for this purpose. Bags should not be larger than necessary and must weigh no more than 15kg per bag, when full, for each location.

2) Racers must clearly properly label their bag(s) with the luggage tags provided by the race organizers. Be sure to include the racer’s full name and bib #, and the location to which the bag should be delivered.

3) If you will not want your bag returned after the race, please also label it "DISCARD AFTER USE." Otherwise, your drop bags will be made be available at the finish.

4) Remember it is possible that your bag will become wet, hot, cold, or crushed during the race; choose and pack your bag accordingly.

5). All the bags will be taken to the finish line. The bags must have been collected within six hours of the end of the race. After that, the runner will have to come in person collect his bag at his own costs from the organization, in Tengchong.

6) Only the bags supplied by the organization will be transported. Sticks are not transportable in these bags.

7) The contents of the bags not having been checked, any complaint about the contents on arrival is not acceptable. It is recommended not to put valuable objects in it.

8) It is recommended to keep toiletry and change of clothing material at Tengchong.



First aid posts are positioned at different points throughout the course. These posts are in radio or telephone liaison with Race Control. A medical control team is present during the entire duration of the events at the command center in TengchongHeshun.

The first aid posts are aimed at bringing help to any person in danger with the means particular to the organization or convention.

1) If it appears that a runner is in difficulty or seriously injured to call for assistance :

-go in person to a first aid point

-telephone the course controller

-ask another runner to alert the first aiders

2) It is essential that each runner helps anybody in danger and alerts the first aid point.

3) Do not forget, that due to the problems related to the environment and the type of event, one might have to wait for assistance for longer than anticipated. Your security, therefore, depends upon the quality of the materials that you have in your pack.

4) A runner calling on a doctor or a rescuer submits himself to their authority and undertakes to accept their decisions. From the moment where the health of a runner necessitates treatment via an intravenous drip, the runner will be, obligatorily, excluded from the race.

5) The first-aiders and doctors have the right to:

-exclude from a race (by invalidating the race-bib) all competitors deemed unfit to continue the event.

-to evacuate by any means a runner judged to be in danger

-to hospitalize any runners whose state of health necessitates doing so

6)The choice of the means of evacuation and of hospital is the decision of the official first-aiders and doctors.

6.1Expenses incurred, resulting from emergency assistance or evacuation, are payable by the person rescued who is also responsible for all costs relating to their return from the area to where they were rescued. We suggest the runner to contact their personal insurance company for compensation.

6.2*If for any reason it is impossible to make contact with the course controller (emergency number on the race-bib), you can call the rescue services direct (especially if you find yourselves in a zone «SOS only »).Emergency number in China110,120.

6.3) An infirmary will be open in Tengchong for the duration by the event. Runners who have a severe medical problem may make use of it.

7. Each runner must stay on the way-marked paths, even to rest or sleep. Any runner who voluntarily leaves the way-marked path is no longer under the responsibility of the organization.



1) Each runner will be supplied with 2 electronic chips fixed to their race-bibs and backpack. Runners who do not have their 2 chips permanently with them will be penalized.

2) A control is carried out on the arrival of any rescue or refreshment post.

Unexpected control posts are set up in places other than the rescue and refreshment posts. Their position is not communicated by the organization.

3) Only the runners carrying a visible and duly controlled race number have access to the refreshment posts.

4) The race guide and the relevant pages on the Internet give a precise list of the refreshment points.

5)2 types of refreshments are offered:

-Drinks only

-Complete refreshments

*Items will be described in details in the race guide.

6) Furthermore, hot dishes will be offered in some posts of the race.

7) To avoid the wastage of disposable plastic cups during the race, every runner has to equip himself with a cup with a minimum volume of 15cl.

Due to the large numbers, disposable beakers will be used at the dedicated points (to be defined in the race book)

8) Any runner who was found to have disposed of their litter along the route will be penalized. Please use trash cans provided at refreshment posts.
