3. Participation Instructions
Participating in the Gaoligong Ultra implies an awareness of the race distance and risks. Prior to the race, athletes must possess the ability to be self-sufficient in mountainous areas and to control and manage problems that may arise from conditions related to this type of event. Furthermore, athletes must be fully prepared for the following situations, and possess the ability to fulfill and promise to comply with the following rules.
i. Understand how to cope, without external assistance, with adverse climatic conditions resulting from altitude (nighttime, low temperatures, intense sun exposure, strong winds, thunderstorms, heavy fog, rain, or snow).
ii. Understand how to control and manage (even when alone) physical or psychological problems arising from high altitude, extreme fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, muscle or joint pain, and various minor ailments.
iii. Fully understand that safety during such events in mountainous terrain depends on the runner's own capacity for adaptation or ability to resolve foreseeable problems.
iv. Be fully acknowledge and overcome these aforementioned difficulties and obstacles, as the Organizing Committee will only provide corresponding supplementary assistance.
v. Every runner must respect nature, respect all relevant race staff, comply with existing race regulations, and accept the constraints of these rules without reservation.
vi. Ensure the ability to receive email and SMS notifications regarding race-related information.
4. Semi-self-sufficiency
Participation on an independent and semi-self-sufficient basis is a fundamental principle of this race. The Gaoligong Ultra is a trail running event held on prime hiking routes within the Tengchong and Gaoligong Mountain regions. Each race category holds its own significance and offers a unique experience; athletes are required to employ different racing strategies and paces to finish within the specified time limits.
The definition of semi-self-sufficiency is that athletes must have the capacity for self-sufficiency between two aid stations. Self-sufficiency extends beyond food to include aspects related to clothing and safety; athletes must possess the ability to adapt to problems they encounter or may encounter (adverse weather, physical issues, injuries, etc.).
This principle is incorporated into the following rules:
i. Each athlete must carry the race gear (refer to the Race Gear List for all items) throughout the entire race. During the entire race, referees may inspect the backpack, its weight, and its contents. Athletes are obliged to accept such inspections with a friendly attitude; any violation may result in disqualification.
ii. The Organizing Committee provides beverages and food at designated aid stations for on-site consumption. Additionally, drinking water or energy drinks are provided for athletes to refill their own bottles or hydration packs. Upon leaving each aid station, athletes must ensure they are carrying sufficient water and food to sustain themselves until the next aid station.
iii. Aid Stations
a. Athletes in the MGU (168km) are permitted to receive assistance from others only at CP4 (Long Wen Qiao), CP7 (Da Hao Ping), CP9 (San Jie Bei), CP12 (Qiao Jie Cun), and CP15 (Sha Ba Lin Chang). The RCE (120km) category is permitted to receive assistance from others only at CP4 (Long Wen Qiao), CP7 (Da Hao Ping), and CP11 (Sha Ba Lin Chang).
b. For the THT (55km), TCZ (35km), and GEP (15km) categories, assistance from others is prohibited at any location throughout the entire race.
c. Assistance must be conducted within the designated areas and by only one person. The person providing assistance must not use any specialized equipment and is allowed to carry one bag with a maximum capacity of 30 liters. Assistance from others is prohibited at non-designated aid stations and at any location along the racecourse.
d. If any athlete requires assistance at designated aid stations (i.e., non-official supplies provided by family, friends, or teams), they must apply for an Assistance Pass in advance. Individuals without a valid Assistance Pass are not permitted to enter the assistance area; violators will be requested to leave, and this may affect the results of the relevant athlete.
e. Elite athletes in the MGU (168km) and RCE (120km) categories may apply for Assistance Pass free of charge. As quotas for each category are limited, the "Apply for Assistance Pass" option must be selected during registration. Upon submission and subsequent approval by the Organizing Committee, the Assistance Pass and assistance wristband will be distributed together with the race pack.
f. The application channel for Assistance Pass for non-elite athletes will open 2 months prior to the race; quotas are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
g. Athletes who have applied for Assistance Pass and have passed the review of the Organizing Committee shall, prior to the race, download the Rules for Assistance Services on the official website for the event, carefully read the latest provisions, and sign the Letter of Commitment for Assistance to ensure compliant participation in the event.
h. Assistance personnel shall, at the time of collecting race materials, submit their identity document together with the athlete’s Letter of Authorization and Letter of Commitment for Assistance, and thereafter obtain the assistance credential and the dedicated assistance wristband.
Special reminder: The Organizing Committee will strictly control the quota for assistance passes; assistance personnel shall enter the aid station within 30 minutes prior to the athlete’s expected arrival time; they must complete cleanup and leave the assistance area within 30 minutes after the athlete’s departure; it is recommended that the duration of any single assistance operation does not exceed 15 minutes to avoid affecting other athletes; it is prohibited to provide assistance within the 50-meter zone surrounding the aid stations.
Receiving assistance at stations other than the designated ones, or on the racecourse within 50 meters from a designated aid station, violates the principle of semi self-sufficiency, and the Organizing Committee resumes the right to impose penalties for such violations to uphold the value of the event. In the above contents, “others” refer to persons other than official event station service staff, referees, volunteers, and the event’s official medical or emergency professionals.
III. Race Rules
The race rules are intended to ensure that the event is conducted in a safe, orderly, and regulated manner, while embodying the principles of fairness, impartiality, and openness in race. These Rules apply to all categories of the “2026 ANTA GUANJUN Tengchong Gaoligong Ultra.” The Organizing Committee reserves its right to formulate, amend, and enforce these rules, which all athletes must fully understand and comply with.
1. Timing and Results
i. Timing Chip
a. Chip timing is used in this event. The timing chip is a device for recording individual results. Please wear the bib containing the timing chip in a prominent and clearly visible position on the front of your body. Athletes shall bear responsibility for any missing results caused by the timing chip being covered.
b. Timing Checkpoints
Athletes must pass each timing checkpoint in sequence during the race. If an athlete misses the result from any timing checkpoint, they will not be included in the ranking of results, and in serious cases their race result will be cancelled. In addition to the timing points announced by the Organizing Committee, temporary timing points may also be established on the course. The results recorded at these temporary timing points shall equally be used as the basis for the Organizing Committee's official time determination.
c. Missing Results
If results are missing for reasons not personally attributable to the athlete, they may apply for result supplementation by providing valid evidence for the missing segment. Upon determination and approval by the timing judges, the Organizing Committee will supplement the missing result. Such evidence must be provided within 24 hours after the overall event cutoff time; applications for supplementation of missing results will not be accepted thereafter.
d. Rules for Timing-Based Ranking
§ Except for the FTR (5 km) category, net time shall be used as the official basis for ranking results in all categories.
§ Athletes must start within 15 minutes after the designated start time for their registered category. Anyone who has not crossed the start line within 15 minutes after the start time shall be deemed to have withdrawn from the race and will be treated as a DNS (Did Not Start).
§ For MGU (168 km), RCE (120 km), THT (55 km), and TCZ (35 km), there will be an overall ranking within each category, separate men’s and women’s rankings, and men’s and women’s age-group rankings. (Age groups: a: 20–39 years, b: 40–49 years, c: 50–59 years, d: 60 years and above.) Men and women will be ranked separately within each age group, and the male and female athletes who place first in their respective age groups will receive additional awards.
§ In the MGU (168 km) category, a decision point will be set at CP7 (Da Hao Ping). Based on their own race condition at that time, athletes may decide either to continue the remaining course of the MGU (168 km) or to transfer to the RCE (120 km) category. Once an athlete confirms transfer to the RCE (120 km) category at this point, they will no longer be eligible for the overall rankings and awards of either the MGU or RCE categories, but they may still receive a personal result for the corresponding distance, as well as the corresponding post-race materials for the RCE category (including finisher medal, commemorative apparel, etc.), and they are also illegible for the corresponding ITRA points.
e. Special Rules for Ranking and Awards in Exceptional Circumstances
§ If an emergency course is activated during the race, athletes who complete the race via the emergency course shall be ranked after those who complete the race on the original course.
§ If a race is temporarily terminated during the event, athletes who have not completed the race shall not be ranked and shall not receive awards.
§ For other circumstances affecting timing and ranking, the Organizing Committee will, based on the actual situation, determine and adjust the timing and ranking rules.

o For cold weather: warm hat, waterproof shell pants, and an additional insulating layer (fleece or a compressible down jacket is recommended).
c. Detailed Provisions on Race Gear
The timing chip is the personal device by which the athlete obtains their official result. The chip has been pre-attached to the back of the race bib; do not tear it off, bend it, or place it in a strong magnetic field or high-temperature environment. Once the chip is damaged, it will be unable to record the athlete’s race result. During the race, the race bib must be worn in a prominent and clearly visible position on the front of the body. Any missing result caused by the race bib (timing chip) being covered shall be the sole responsibility of the athlete.
The wristband is an important credential for athletes to enjoy the event-related services provided by the Organizing Committee. Once it is lost, the athlete will no longer be entitled to such services, including but not limited to taking the shuttle buses.

o Withdrawn athletes who are at other checkpoints and whose physical condition does not require specially arranged evacuation services must proceed as soon as possible to the nearest checkpoint with shuttle service and take the shuttle bus back to the finish.
o For checkpoints that can only be reached by small vehicles or off-road vehicles:
§ If conditions permit, when the checkpoint is closed, the Organizing Committee will shuttle the withdrawn athletes remaining at that checkpoint to the finish.
§ If the race is partially or completely suspended due to adverse weather, the Organizing Committee will arrange for the evacuation of athletes as soon as possible.

However, only real-name reports submitted by the complainant themself will be accepted, and evidence of the reported person’s violation must be provided before the end of race of the corresponding category. Photographs, videos, and audio recordings may all serve as evidentiary materials. After the Dispute Resolution Committee has collected evidence, it will make the corresponding ruling and, as appropriate, publish the decision through official channels.
c. Any person who holds objections regarding race results, referees’ officiating, or an athlete’s eligibility and wishes to file an appeal must submit a written appeal to the Arbitration Committee within 24 hours after the end of the race for the corresponding category, and at the same time pay an appeal fee of CNY 500. IV. Race Organization
1. Race Bib
a. The Organizing Committee will announce the race numbers before the event. Athletes may access their race numbers on the official website. The Organizing Committee will also inform athletes of their race numbers via email and text message. Athletes may contact the Organizing Committee in a timely manner for questions.
b. When collecting the race bib, athletes must submit the following materials:
§ An identity document consistent with that used at registration.
§ All race gear required by the event.
§ Medical certificate: Athletes in the MGU/RCE/THT/TCZ/GEP categories must submit a qualified physical examination report issued by a formal medical institution within three months prior to the race (which must include a normal/qualified electrocardiogram report). The race bib will not be issued without a qualified electrocardiogram report provided.
a. Athletes must wear the race bib on the chest or abdominal area throughout the entire race and must ensure that the race bib is clearly visible. The race bib must be placed on the outermost layer of clothing worn by the athlete and must not be worn on the legs or on the race pack. The athlete’s name and number on the bib must not be altered or concealed. The race bib also serves as identification for taking shuttle buses and for receiving race supplies, medical rescue, bag deposit/collection, and other services. Unless the athlete refuses to comply with the decisions of race officials, the race bib may not be removed at any time; discarding the race bib shall be deemed disqualification of the athlete.
2. Bag Deposit
a. For the MGU category, each athlete will receive one storage bag and two change-of-clothes bags, each with a capacity of up to 30 liters, which shall be deposited at the start area before the race. Upon completion of the start process, the storage bag will be transported to the finish; the change-of-clothes bags will be transported respectively to the changeover points at CP7 (Da Hao Ping) and CP12 (Qiao Jie). After athletes use the change-of-clothes bags at these changeover points, the bags will be transported back to the finish area.
b. For the RCE category, each athlete will receive one storage bag and one change-of-clothes bag, each with a capacity of up to 30 liters, which shall be deposited at the start area before the race. Upon completion of the start process, the storage bag will be transported to the finish area; the change-of-clothes bag will, after the start, be transported to the changeover point at CP7 (Da Hao Ping). The collection deadline 2 hours after the end of the race. If collection is made after 2 hours, athletes must go to the location designated by the Organizing Committee personally to collect their bags.
g. Due to logistical constraints, the return transport of change-of-clothes bags for the MGU/RCE categories may be delayed. The Organizing Committee does not guarantee that all change-of-clothes bags for MGU/RCE athletes will have been transported back to the finish area at the time each athlete arrives, but it is guaranteed that all change-of-clothes bags will be transported back by the end of the race.
h. The Organizing Committee will only transport the storage bags and change-of-clothes bags issued by the event. Trekking poles may not be placed inside any bag. The Organizing Committee will not inspect, clean, or register the contents of the bags. Consequently, the Organizing Committee will not accept any disputes from participants regarding the condition of the bags' contents. Please refrain from placing any valuables inside your drop bags.
3. Race Courses
a. Course-marking materials such as fabric markers, route flags, reflective stickers, strobe lights, and signboards will be used as directional indicators along the courses.
b. Before the race, the Organizing Committee will upload electronic route tracks for each category for athletes to download according to their respective category.
c. During the race, if no course markings are seen for more than 300 meters, athletes must use the preloaded map on their mobile phone to verify whether they are on the correct route. If they have deviated from the route, they must return to relocate the course markings.
d. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to adjust, for each race category, the start times, cut-off times, and other aspects of the course.
4. Aid Stations
a. The Organizing Committee will ensure that beverages and food are provided at aid stations along the course for athletes to consume on site. Athletes may use the drinking water and sports drinks provided to fill their own water containers and hydration bladders; bringing personal drinking containers and tableware are part of the required gear. Before leaving an aid station, athletes must carefully check that they are carrying sufficient food and drink to ensure they have enough supplies until they reach the next aid station.
b. Only athletes who have passed inspection and are wearing a clearly visible race bib are permitted to enter the aid stations and rest areas.
c. Detailed information on supplies will be announced before the race. A complete list of aid stations, together with the supplies and services provided at each station, will be published in the race handbook and in the relevant sections of the official website.
5. Rest Areas
a. In the MGU (168 km) category, rest areas equipped with cots and blankets will be available at CP7 and CP12; in the RCE (120 km) category, such a rest area will be prepared at CP7. 6. Medical and Rescue Assistance
a. The medical rescue support system of the event is composed of a medical treatment team and a rescue team. The former is made up of ambulances, doctors, nurses, and medical volunteers, and is responsible for medical work at and in the vicinity of aid stations, as well as for transferring athletes to designated hospitals in emergency situations. The latter is composed of professional rescue personnel and rescue vehicles and is responsible for providing rescue support on mountain sections at fixed rescue points along the course.
b. The Organizing Committee will set up medical and rescue support points along the course. These posts will be equipped with radio or telephone communication facilities to contact the Race Command Center on matters relating to medical rescue support (the relevant telephone numbers will be published in the race handbook and printed on the race bib). Throughout the entire event, a medical rescue team will be on duty at the Race Command Center.
c. The task of the medical and rescue support points is to assist any athlete who is in a dangerous situation.
d. When an athlete is in distress or seriously injured, he or she shall decide independently whether to obtain assistance from the medical and rescue support points by any of the following means.
§ Proceeding on their own to a medical and rescue point.
§ Calling the Race Command Center.
§ Requesting assistance from other athletes in obtaining support from the safety and rescue services.
§ Using emergency rescue procedures (dialing 120/110).
e. All athletes have a responsibility to provide assistance to any person in distress and to report the situation to the safety and rescue personnel.
f. If it is not possible to contact the Race Command Center, athletes may call directly to obtain rescue services (in particular when an athlete finds themself in an area where only emergency calls can be made). The emergency rescue numbers within China are: 110 or 120.
g. It should be clearly understood that any rescue carried out in response to environmental or race-related danger requires athletes to wait patiently, and the waiting time will usually be longer than psychologically expected. In such circumstances, the athlete’s safety depends on the quality of the race gear carried on their person.
h. All race staff, medical personnel, first-aid personnel, search-and-rescue personnel, official guides, and other relevant personnel designated by the Organizing Committee shall have the authority to enforce the following.
§ Request an athlete to withdraw from the race if they determine that the athlete is unfit to continue.

j. At any time, if an athlete needs to receive intravenous infusion treatment, this shall be regarded as automatic withdrawal from the race.
k. During the event, medical stations will be set up at each aid station along the course and at the finish. If an athlete faces a serious health problem, they may seek assistance from a medical station. Depending on the treatment capacity available on site, medical station personnel will provide basic treatment to athletes.
l. All athletes must always remain within the proper bounds of the course along the route, including when sleeping. Once an athlete leaves the course area without authorization, any safety issues arising thereafter will fall outside the scope of responsibility of the Organizing Committee.
7. Collection and Transport of Withdrawn Athletes
a. Sweep/collection shuttle vehicles will be arranged only at aid stations with designated cut-off times (cut-off checkpoints).
b. At non–cut-off checkpoints, the Organizing Committee will arrange vehicles as soon as possible to transfer withdrawn athletes to a cut-off checkpoint where collection shuttle vehicles are accessible.

b. The Organizing Committee recommends that all athletes carry a garbage bag with them and use it to collect their rubbish and discarded items along the course, until they reach an aid station where these can be properly disposed of.
c. Please follow the course markings and remain on the designated route and do not take shortcuts. Using unmarked shortcuts will damage the geological conditions of local areas.
d. Aid stations do not provide disposable utensils. Athletes must bring their own tableware (such as collapsible bowls and portable chopsticks or forks). Water bottles and other disposable packaged items are not allowed to be taken away from the aid stations.
9. Anti-Doping
All athletes are obliged to submit to anti-doping controls before, during, and after the race. If an athlete refuses or fails to appear for any required anti-doping test, they shall be subject to the same penalties as for the use of prohibited substances, including withdrawal from the race, disqualification of results, and permanent disqualification from future participation.
10. Insurance
a. The Organizing Committee will procure personal accident insurance for all athletes and event service personnel for the duration of the race.
b. If, due to incomplete or inaccurate registration information provided by an athlete, the insurance cannot be purchased or the insurance coverage is rendered invalid, the responsibility shall be borne by the athlete.
c. The insurance policy purchased by the Organizing Committee is personal accident insurance; adverse consequences arising from the athlete’s own illnesses or physical conditions do not fall within the scope of such accident insurance.
d. If athletes have special needs, they may purchase appropriate supplementary insurance on their own, but the insurance policy must include coverage for the costs of search, rescue, and evacuation services carried out within the territory of China. The choice of insurer is at the discretion of the athlete.
§ The method of evacuation and the choice of the relevant medical institution (hospital) shall be entirely determined by the search-and-rescue and medical personnel.
§ The costs arising from special search-and-rescue operations and evacuation shall be borne by the person receiving assistance. Athletes are responsible for creating their personal file and providing it to their insurance company before the specified deadline
§ Note: The costs incurred for evacuation by helicopter shall be borne by the athlete. The choice of evacuation method shall be entirely decided by the Organizing Committee, which will place the safety of athletes as its priority.
11. Portrait Rights and Copyright
